organic face cream
What
you don’t put on your skin is
as important as what you do put on it. This is the
principle behind
organic face cream and organic skin care products. Ingredients in
synthetic face creams – the same ones that promise to take years off in
hours – in fact can add years by introducing unnatural elements that
cause your skin to react and go into a defensive mode.
Organic
face cream, instead, works with the natural balance of your skin. It
refreshes, protects and detoxifies dry, tired skin with natural,
botanical ingredients. Natural oils used in organic products are far
more effective than the petroleum-derived products (mineral oil).
Natural ingredients work in harmony with your skin and body. They bring
out your body’s natural healing and regenerative capabilities.
A
good face cream, organic or not, improves skin elasticity and
resilience. It is deeply hydrating, but isn't heavy, is fast absorbing
and doesn't clog pores.
Another reason to feel
good about
using organic skin care product is the organic farming methods used in
producing the ingredients. Organic farmers avoid unnecessary chemicals
& pesticides; in other words they are good to the earth.
So how
do do you find a quality organic face cream? Is
it labeled “certified organic"? If
so, this is your best
bet. Several
associations certify that skin care is natural including Soil
Association (its label says "Organic Beauty Standards") the BDIH
(Natural Beauty Standard) and Ecocert (Organic Beauty Standard). If you
see any of these labels the product sill will meet the below criteria
(except for maybe the
“love factor” … that is where we come in). If
it’s not labeled, here are a few things to look for to assure
you’re getting a quality organic product …
- Ingredients
avoided - Does it contain any common ingredients
used in
synthetic creams that are considered harmful? (Click here for a list
of synthetic chemicals to avoid from organic
consumers.org)
- Preservatives
used – Organic
face cream needs to use effective preservatives that aren’t synthetic.
Will it have a good shelf life? Some of the safest natural
preservatives (despite some of the chemical-sounding names) are:
- phenoxyethanol
- iodopropynyl butylcarbamate
- citrus
or grapefruit seed extracts
- rosemary extracts
- Natural
scent - Is the aroma naturally created from essential
oils instead of
from artificial perfumes?
- The
“love” factor – Do you feel soothed and rejuvenated when
using it? Does
it have a refreshing natural scent? Does it have noticeable
moisturizing, smoothing and firming qualities? Without sampling a
product, it's hard to know. That's where we come in.
Based
on the above criteria, we recommend these natural and organic
