More and more attachment parenting support groups are popping up, and other organizations advocate it, including La Leche League and Mothering magazine. But it seems the mainstream media has started to put a negative spin on this natural type of parenting. The word "attachment" can have a negative connotation (conjuring up images of addiction and unhealthy relationships) and it's unfortunate that this primal, simplistic and nurturing type of parenting has been given a catch phrase that may cast it in a gloomy light. Attachment parenting does not only mean physical attachment. It includes giving your undivided attention to your children, using natural and organic baby products and putting your children first rather than putting them back seat to jobs and stimuli such as TV, internet and other distractions in our busy, technology-driven world. It's too bad that this primal way of parenting - putting the child first, establishing a bond, and using natural methods - is getting bad press. If the bond that is created through "attachment parenting" is neglected, both the child and the parent suffer. I will be writing more about attachment parenting in the near future as it seems to be a hot topic. Well, it's been about 5 months since my little boy was born and just about that long since I've done any major updates to the site.
I was ambitious during those last weeks of my pregnancy. I was on bed rest and bored as can be. I got a lot done on the site during those weeks! And somehow in my delirious pregnant state I thought I could fit in time to work on the site after the baby was born.
All of you mothers know how wrong I was about that. :) Any free time I came across had to be devoted to sleep. And as much sleep as I could get.
These first months have been exhausting and challenging, and some of the most joyous moments and days of my life.
Now that we're starting to settle into a routine, and daddy is stepping up to the plate more and more, I'm starting to find some time to work on the site.
I have some exciting things in mind. From a forum (message board) to some other changes I will wait to announce until they are a little more concrete.
This is a better time than ANY to let me know what YOU would like to see on the site. I have created this site for YOU so that we as mothers can unite around natural and organic ways of raising our children. You have ideas out there, and I want this site to be a forum for sharing, not just for one voice.
With that said, I'm signing off to go to work on some of these ideas.
